Topping-out ceremony at katharinenspital in forchheim: new perspectives for seniors

Nico schonherr’s team spent five weeks building the roof of the new catharine hospital. On friday, 150 guests came to listen to zimmerer schonherr pronounce the verdict. After uwe kirschstein (SPD), the mayor of oberburg, had symbolically hammered the last nail into the roof, he invited the visitors to a snack on the construction site on behalf of the united pfrundner foundation.

The topping-out ceremony at bamberger strabe 3-5 was preceded by a church service, because on friday not only was the construction progress of the senior citizens’ housing facility celebrated – on the same day there was also a kathrein celebration. Kirschstein recalled that st. Catherine was also the patron saint of education. This fits in well with the new building because the municipal library is right next door, and because the new senior citizens’ housing complex includes a district meeting place, i.E. An educational facility, said uwe kirschstein.

More freedom

Among the guests was former lord mayor franz stumpf, who had pushed the project forward in his last years in office. "I am proud of the beautiful building", said franz stumpf "and i am also proud that it is accepted by the population". The senior citizens’ residential facility with its flexible offers means an "improvement in care in the region". In the future, residents will be able to request care: "this gives individuals more freedom because they are no longer dependent on the rules of the house."

Sigrun wagner, the city’s architect, was also satisfied with the development of the 11.3-million-euro project. The first residents are expected to move into the rental apartments in january 2019. "40 of the 55 apartments have already been reserved", said wagner.

For former mayor stumpf, this also dispelled all doubts as to whether the project could have been calculated too riskily for the pfrundner foundation. "The system of the pfrundner foundation is often not properly recognized", said stumpf on the fringes of the topping-out ceremony. The medical center will be full in three months, so the foundation will no longer be burdened with it. "The rental income in the catharine hospital can be taken to pay off the debts, there is no risk", franz stumpf said. Nevertheless, there was also criticism of the housing project yesterday. As in the planning phase, CSU city councilor gunther bundgaard criticized the room layout in the senior housing complex. Too many small single rooms here. It would have made more sense to create space for shared apartments.
